| Dusit Thani - set across the road from Lumpini Park, the largest in Bangkok, and a five minute walk to the Patpong nightlife area, this hotel is located close to both the river and the central business area. Twenty three storeys high, it used to be the tallest building in Bangkok. Not any more maybe, but it still maintains five star standards in comfort and facilities. Beautiful sunken lounge by the lobby looks out over a small garden and the pool is peacefully set in a tree lined central courtyard. Rooms are stylishly furnished in pastels. Lumpini Park- opposite the Dusit and probably the best outdoor escape in Bangkok. Popular in early morning for both serious joggers ( the route's about two kilometres) and devotees of the ancient Chinese practice of t'ai chi. This is also the time to partake of an alternative breakfast of snake blood and bile, dispensed by vendors as traditional health tonics. The centrepiece of the park is a large artificial lake with rowboats, surrounded by well tended lawns and popular walking paths. Catch the kite flying from mid February to April. |
