| Pinnacle Resort,
Maenam
- small,
attractive resort located directly on quiet Maenam beach with 24 hotel
rooms and 21 bungalows. Having not visited the resort for a
while one of our customers sent his impressions of a recent (
February 2001) stay. This he kindly did at length..............We
enjoyed our stay at the Pinnacle Resort very much. It is located
on Mae Nam bay, which is a quiet beach. If you like parasailing
and partying, then this is not the resort for you. The resort is made up of two types of accomodations. Bungalows and a hotel with 24 rooms. The bungalow we stayed in had two beds (double and single), a makeup area with mirror, open closet, mini bar, porch, and a very large bathroom with shower. The bathroom windows have screens that are open to the outside, so it is best to leave the bathroom door closed when the air conditioner is on. The thermostat for our air conditioner was rather fickle. We woke up a couple of times during the night because the room got too cold. The brochure said that the bungalows come with a television and stereo, although ours had neither of these. The hotel is farthest away from the beach, and was rather uninspired. It does not face the beach, and looks over one of the less scenic portions of the property. The rooms were clean and big enough, but I would opt for a bungalow over the hotel. The Pinnacle is a fairly small resort. It took a bit of adjustment for us, since we came from a large resort in Cha Am. While it may not have all of the glitz associated with a large resort, the Pinnacle is a very relaxing and quiet place. You won't see large "package tour" groups here. Don't be too disappointed when you see the check-in area at the entrance to the resort. The landscaping improves greatly once you get past the office. The beach is one of the nicest on the island. It is made up of course sand, and the water was extremely clean. The water gets deep fairly quickly, so you do not have to go out very far for swimming. This also meant that there was little visible difference between high and low tide. The Pinnacle's beach is made up of two tiers. The upper part, where almost everyone sits, is shaded by numerous palm trees. The lower tier goes out to the water, and has no shade. The Pinnacle is the second to last resort on the western end of Mae Nam bay. There is a cliff that cuts off the bay on the western side, making the area fairly secluded. We saw the occasional beach peddler, but they were only a minor distraction. Beach chairs were limited in number, so plan on claiming one early in the morning. The restaurant is located just a stone's throw from the water. Meals were good (but not great), and ranged from traditional Thai to hamburgers, pizza and pasta. Most entrees were from 80 to 160 baht, with the Thai entrees being the cheapest. The pool is fairly small, but is very attractive, and overlooks the ocean. I would gladly stay at this resort again. But... those who like excitement should stay somewhere else. The Pinnacle is geared towards quiet relaxation, and offers no activities. We rented a motorbike for 150 baht a day, and drove the 15 minutes to Chaweng beach when we needed a fix of civilization. Television with regular video movie showings available at the restaurant, and the resort has phone & fax facilities at the reception area |
