| Sofitel Central - beautiful resort set right on the beach, that starred as the Hotel Le Phnom in The Killing Fields. Though Thailand was never colonised the Sofitel has a distinct colonial feel with its low rise red tiled roof, verandahs, open reception areas and well tended gardens. Formerly the Royal Hua Hin Railway Hotel, this was the towns premier resort but seemed destined to live on long past faded glories until privatisation led to a stylish renovation. Rooms are a tasteful combination of polished hardwoods and Thai silks whilst bright, spacious bathrooms have art deco fittings. All have terraces offering garden or sea views. Facilities include the Railway Brasserie - a replication of Royal Hua Hin Station, two floodlit tennis courts, Satchmos Nightclub and an Afternoon Tea at what was the lobby of the original hotel. |

Highlight |
The Gardens- well worth a look at even if you're not staying here. The hotel is set in 15 hectares of beautifully manicured landscapes featuring a variety of tropical greenery, and a topiary garden of animal shaped bushes comparable to that of the Royal Palace at Bang Pa In. The lush setting includes an orchid and butterfly farm, a couple of putting greens and the chance to experience outdoor giant size chess. Perfect for an early evening wander and pre dinner cocktail to raise the appetite. |
