| Sofitel Central Plaza - previously known as the Central Grand Plaza, this is the Central groups flagship hotel, located relatively close to the airport and with a free shuttle bus service to the city centre or the nearby newly opened Mor Chit elevated train station. Rooms are large at 35 sq. metres and have bay windows and adjustable lighting. Bathrooms are also larger than average with mirrors to match. Half a dozen restaurants include an open air Thai Sala by the pool and a stylish modern Chinese. An excellent fitness centre, tennis courts, jacuzzi, and nice freeform pool feature amongst a host of facilities. The hotel is just a walkway from the Central Plaza Shopping Center housing more than 300 shops - and a six storey department store at which hotel guests can obtain a special 10% discount off purchases. |

Chatuchak Weekend Market- the Disneyland of Thai markets lies just across the road from the hotel in Chatuchak Park. From around 8am to 8pm on Saturdays & Sundays the park becomes a chaotic rabbit warren of lanes selling everything from opium pipes to live snakes. Given that there's some 9,000 stalls and an estimated 200,000 bargain hunters each weekend, it's probably the best place to buy anything Thai in the kingdom, especially arts and handicrafts.
