| Sol Twin Towers - huge international class hotel situated relatively close to some of Bangkoks major sights (the Grand Palace is a twenty minute drive, which is brief by Bangkok standards) and a 15 minute walk to the railway station. Spacious crystal chandeliered lobby houses a comfortable piano bar and a number of shops selling Thai handicrafts. Rooms (32 sq. metres) are richly carpeted and decorated in cool pastel shades and come with marble bathrooms. Good casual restaurant poolside, and fitness centre also benefits from pool view - better than the usual blank wall! |

Highlight |
Jim Thompsons House- a 15 minute walk from the hotel stands this tribute to the American responsible for reviving Thailands silk industry after WW2. He vanished mysteriously in the Malaysian jungle in 1967 leaving a legacy of an assemblage of traditional, up to 200 year old, Thai teak houses that contain a fascinating collection of Thai and Chinese antiques. A large part of the attraction is that they are displayed as if it's still Jims home rather than in a sterile museum fashion. The teak flooring means walking barefoot so check your socks first. |
